Road Trip - Day #1

Great day to be on the road. It was 70 degrees most of the time and the traffic wasn't too bad. Makena had her iPod and cell phone fully charged. We were ready!

The first stop on our road trip was Astoria. Makena hadn't ever been up to the Column, so we went there.

Jacob hadn't been there either.

Then we walked up to the top. And, if you haven't ever done that, it's about a billion stairs on a single sized spiral staircase. People coming and going, panting and stopping.
But, we made it. And it's beautiful!

Hailee text us the address to Mikey's house from the movie Goonies, so we stopped there next.

We felt like we were spying just a little.

Then we enjoyed lunch at a little bistro on the Pier.

And then we were off...headed to Aberdeen.

I love this bridge - Makena doesn't.

Bubbye Oregon.

We headed to Ilwaco - to Fort Canby and other smaller State Parks.

After hiking a while (not a long while to me, but forever to Makena), then walking up quite a hill, we finally found the Lighthouse at Cape Disappointment.

Makena said the Lighthouse was a bit of a disappointment after that hike.

The views were gorgeous tho.

Then we hiked over to North Head Lighthouse.

Someone was able to take a nap between Ilwaco and Aberdeen.

While driving around Aberdeen, I spotted this restaurant. I'm not one for hot dogs, but loved the colors of the building and the props of course.

When we made it back to the hotel, it was around 8:30pm. Makena wanted to go straight to bed. (Must have been all of the excitement from the day!) She settled for listening to her iPod and reading a book for a few hours.

PS: Notice the door in the picture above. When we first came in the room, Makena says "Great - a door for the neighbors to come kill us through. And they put a chair there to block it?!?" I laughed (kinda) and then rolled the bigger (heavier) chair in front of it too.

PPS: Because it takes forever to upload pictures on free wireless internet, I'll only load a few pix from each day. Hopefully I'll get a chance to add more after we get home.

: All of these pictures are from my camera. Makena took a couple of them, but she'll have to share pictures that she took on her camera.
