Road Trip ~ Day 4

We decided to have breakfast back at the Cafe, mostly because it was the only place that was open. Luckily it wasn't busy...

Then we headed for Fossil. Our first stop was another of the John Day Fossil Beds - the Clarno Unit.

There were a few trails for us to hike at the base of rocks. It was getting hot out, and hiking is not one of Makena's favorite things to do (any physical activity for that matter), so we just did the basic trail.

Then we headed back in to the town of Fossil and found an area that they let you dig for fossils at.

After carefully finding a couple of fossils, we stopped for lunch in town. We were surprised to see not one, not two, but THREE different restaurants in Fossil! We were getting in to the 200+ population towns now...

After lunch, we headed out to the Wilson Ranch; where we would be staying at their Bed & Breakfast. The group had just head out to ride horses, so we had the entire house to ourselves.

Makena spent some time on her laptop while I sat outside and read.

After it cooled down a bit, we decided to go for a walk farther down the ranch. The Wilson's ranch in 9,000 acres.

When we returned to the house, we did a little more reading and relaxing before deciding to go back in to Fossil for dinner. This time though, we tried a different restaurant (one of the THREE!).

The best part of the menu for me: the beer page - Coors Lite, Mirror Pond, Pabst Blue Ribbon. Finally...a Mirror Pond!! That really meant that we were getting closer to civiliation.

The best part of the menu for Makea: the desserts page - strawberry shortcake. Which she took to go so that she could enjoy it back at the ranch.

It was warm enough to keep the windows in the room open. We could hear the horses whinny and the owls who. (Makena said she never realized that owls actually "who".) It was easy to fall asleep to those sounds.
