Walden Island - Day 26 - 'fun in the sun'

Jamie left early on Friday morning to pick up Makena. He had to stop and get a couple more fans, as the one we found before leaving just wasn't enough. When they got back, they brought everyone over to the island. We then all decided to go down and swim before my sister and Chad arrived. They stayed with us on the island - in our tent that we left up.

After getting everything set up, we went out in the boat to try to cool off. Chad went out on the knee board, and the rest of us just swam. It was very hot out and it felt great in the water!

relaxing my foot without the boot

We just couldn't bring ourselves to make a fire to cook on (still WAY too hot), so Jason suggested we get pizza. When Jamie and I got back to the island, it was just getting dark and T & Chad were just starting to see what we meant by 'a lot of mosquitoes'. I think I've said it before, but they are just CRAZY out there!! Even with the hundreds of birds and bats, bottles of different bug spray or citronella candles; it's just not enough to keep up with the mosquitoes. Jamie & I will have some sort of a mosquito trap up there before next Spring. I was amazed that some of them are over $1,000 - but now I don't mind spending that!! I had purchased a screen type thing for the front door, but Jamie didn't get it up before it had gotten dark out. Makena and I get eaten alive every night unless we just hide out in the house. And, with it being as hot as it was, we didn't want to - but we did. Makena used her computer for a while before falling asleep, while Jamie & I watched a movie.

Walden Island - Day 25

We headed back up to the lake on Thursday. We knew it was going to be a HOT weekend, so we first went in search of some fans for the shed. That was easier said than done! Dylona, Jason, Kylah & Kallie arrived shortly after we did. (They stayed in their trailer at the campground across from the island.) Jason helped Jamie get our stuff over to the island while Dylona & I took the girls to play in the lake for a while. We then went over to the island to relax, try to stay cool and have dinner.

Oh how my garden grows...

There is finally some progress in my garden! The black cherry tomato plant is growing like crazy and has 8 to 10 green ones on it. There is one cucumber as well as 2 other starts. Just a flower still on my zucchini...but I'm hopeful!

We are off to the lake again tomorrow morning sometime. Dylona, Jason and the girls will be staying the weekend (4 days) with us as well as my sister and Chad. We know it's going to be a HOT weekend, so we're planning for that. I really hate being in this foot boot, and know I won't really get to do anything, so I'm already whining about that! I guess that just means I get to take a lot more pictures. : )

More eating...

Makena had her friend Madison over to spend the night on Monday. I decided to invite Rick & Kari over for a BBQ and 'the other Jaime' (our friend Jaime Mayol) is in town so he stayed as well. Jamie grilled a bunch of different stuff, I made a pasta salad and we had some yummy strawberry shortcakes and pie. I think I was still full from eating over at Gram's house on Sunday! I, of course, managed to eat more!

Madison & Makena having shortcake

We had enough strawberries for me to make crepes for the girls this morning. I finally made them get up at 11am so they could eat and enjoy the sunshine.

Visiting

We decided to drive to Garibaldi yesterday to visit with some of my family. My Aunt Tami had come in for the week (they have a house in Rockaway), my Aunt Kari has been visiting from Michigan for a few weeks now and is leaving on Tuesday and my Aunt Cinda was just coming in from California for a couple of days. Rick had driven in for the day too - Gram had a full house! (She even let us bring all of the dogs in too!) She made a wonderful dinner; ham, potatoes, salads, veggies - everything was great and we came home very full! We love you all.

with Tami & Kari
Tami & Cinda looking at pictures - Tam is winking at me.

Jamie didn't win any money at poker on Saturday night - in fact, I think he said he was the first one out! I told him that we weren't having parties anymore if he kept loosing money. : )

Happy 2nd Birthday Logan!

Today was Logan's 2nd Birthday party. Lucky boy got some great gifts, we had a good lunch and yummy cake. We haven't seen everyone for a while (and have been missing the kids!) so it was a good way to spend the day. My "Why I smiled today"...

Happy 2nd Birthday Logan!

Jamie & Kallie

'Poker Night' is at our house tonight. The guys haven't played in a while - we haven't even been home on a weekend in a while! Hopefully Jamie is wining some money!! I'm going to finish up here and then go upstairs to rest my foot and read for a while. I got up early this morning, so I'm thinking it's going to be an early night for me. I guess that all depends on how long the guys stay and how loud they get. : )

Hillsboro Airshow

I guess it's actually the "Oregon International Airshow" but it was originally the "Hillsboro Airshow" and we're in Hillsboro, so...

We had a great time at the airshow last night! I can't remember the last time I was there on a Friday night...I think that's the best day to go. They don't have all of the booths open, but there are a lot less people and a fireworks show. We actually got tickets from ATG so we were in a tented area - and ATG sponsored the fireworks.

After the show, we headed over to Lil' Cooperstown to eat but they were closing. After a bit more traveling (thanks for driving Jason!) we ended up Coyote's where we had appetizers and drinks.

MRI results

Well...I had my first ever MRI yesterday and I can totally see why people don't enjoy them! It wasn't difficult or painful, just loud and a bit claustrophobic. My doctor had the results within the hour - I now have a stress fracture. Sooo...it's back to the boot for two more weeks and then we'll go from there. She said that ligaments are much better (so that's good) but there was just too much stress on my foot. We are spending 4+ days with family/friends up at the lake next weekend, so I'm really bummed that I won't be better by then!

By the way Jamie (Honey) the yard needs to be mowed again... : )

Overcast Friday

After many days of heat (which I love) it's a bit overcast this morning. I still have all of my windows open tho Mom - no worries!

I have my MRI this afternoon and then have to do a little shopping before a CASA meeting. Then, we are headed to the Hillsboro Air Show tonight - looking forward to some great fireworks! We can usually see the planes from our house, or watch them practice as we are on the 'flight path', but it's sometimes nice to go in for a closer look. Dylona & Jason will meet us at home and then we'll all head over - we have other friends meeting us there as well. I'll probably have pictures to post sometime later...

Enjoy the weekend!

For some reason, some of the comments posted have been deleted. I'm not sure why, but I do get a notice when a comment is posted so hopefully we've already read them.

Rain Barrels

I picked up 4 55-gallon white drums today to make rain barrels out of. After looking around and finding them from $90 on up, I decided to make my own. I got these for $5 each at a local food supplier who had olive oil in them - perfect! I'll paint them a dark color, put in a spigot and attach them to the gutters...well, there's a little bit more too it but not much. We will have two here at the house and then two up at the property.

Poor me...

So I had to make another doctors appt. today for my foot. I thought all was well, but it started hurting a bit again on Sunday and it's just gradually gotten worse. Sooo...she set up an appointment for an MRI on Friday and then an ortho appointment after that - basically because she doesn't know what else to do (or what she's doing I'm thinking). I'm supposed to wear my lovely splint again if I'm going to be walking around much over the next few days. I think I'll just continue to try to sit around on my lazy butt.

"Why I smiled today" - while trying to think of something, I realized that I talked to 3 of my closest friends on the phone today...all in one day!! (I don't enjoy talking on the phone much.) But they all made me smile today! : )

Jamie & Georges St-Pierre

Jamie called me on his way home from Montreal, Canada today and said that Georges St-Pierre was boarding the plane ahead of him. He said that he was sneaking a peak at his boarding pass just to make sure it was him. If you aren't familiar with him, Georges St-Pierre is currently the Welterweight Champion in the UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship). He is 5'10" and 170lbs of pure muscle (hey...I'm that too with just a little less muscle!) Here are a couple of sites with info on him and a picture his friend took of him & Jamie. http://www.ufc.com/GeorgesSt-Pierre or

Hey...three posts in one day...what a great blogger I am!! : ) Makena even made the comment today that I already have over 55 posts.

Why I love him

I found some pictures from a while back that can fully explain why I love Jamie. There are the obvious (he's damn good looking of course) and then there are the reasons why he makes me love him even more...
always silly...
what turkey?
you had to be there...
always helping out my mom
always supportive

Love you Honey!

Pook's Drawings

As I was looking at some files on my computer, I found a bunch of pictures that Makena drew and scanned. Hopefully she doesn't mind me posting them!! Thanks for sharing Pook!! :)

Good Ol' Monday

We were thinking of staying an extra day in Garibaldi, but Papa wasn't feeling well and was trying to get some rest. He took us out to an all-you-can eat Chinese food buffet (Makena was in heaven) and then we went back to their house to rest before leaving Sunday evening. We hope Papa is back to his self again soon!

I wanted to share some pictures from the weekend...

Momma's new nightstand
one of her 'finds' at Cart'Ms
the mirror that was going to the lake but is now staying home - I found a much smaller one for the lake
the cool bins I found - they will go to the lake
some goodies from Momma
Gram gave this to me for my new clothesline at the lake - it's staying home too! : ) It looks too cute in my laundry room.
hangin' out on Saturday night

"Why I smiled today" - I woke up with Makena snuggled against me softly snoring. She has been stuffy with allergies for a few days now, but she was sound asleep. My angel...

Good shopping day!

We had a good shopping day today. My mom, Aunt Kim and Aunt Kari and I first went to Cart'Ms (what is actually the Manzanita recycling/dump center) and there were some great 'finds'! I found two great, large wooden bins for $5 each - an old, white mirror for $12 (I was looking for one to put up at the property but I think it will stay at home) - then a bunch of chicken wire for $.25 that I am creating something with. My aunts then went shopping in Nehalem while my mom and I headed to Wheeler to our favorite antique shop. We shopped for about 1 1/2 hours - I found another smaller mirror (that will hopefully make it up to the property) and a couple other things that I had to pass up. We then went to a shop in Bay City where I found a great deal on vintage cloth napkins. My mom was very proud of her 'finds' as well - she found a great deal on a new nightstand that fits right in with her bedroom decor. I'll have pictures to post when I get home...

"Why I smiled today" - because when we got home after 4 hours of shopping, Makena was on the couch and Papa was in his chair; right where we left them.

It's August already?!?

Wow...how the days fly by sometimes! My 8 weeks in the foot splint felt like forever but it's now done! My foot feels better - a little stiff - but not swollen. I even went out and mowed the yard today for the first time - Jamie will be soooo happy!!!

Enjoy the weekend...enjoy August...enjoy every day!
